Payroll Approval & Payslips

Who signs off a payroll period, and how do payslips reach employees?

Approval is a distinct permission from payroll editing: the approval workspace lists periods by year, and approving stamps the period with who approved it and when. After approval, payslips are generated per employee from the report template the schema names.

The sequence

5 steps
  1. Period listed

Saved periods appear in the approval workspace by year with status.

  2. Review results

The approver opens calculated results per employee for the period.

  3. Approve

Selected employees or the period are approved; approver and date are stamped on the record.

  4. Generate payslips

Payslip documents are produced from the schema’s report template, per employee or in bulk.

  5. Publish

Approved results appear in each employee’s self-service pay view.

How it works

The approval workspace is separate from the run screens: periods list by year with their status, the approver opens a period’s calculated results, and approves selected employees or the period — including custom-range periods. The period record keeps the approver and the approval date, so sign-off is attributable, not implicit.

The permission model enforces the separation: approving and generating payslips are their own authorization claims, distinct from editing payroll, so the person who prepares a run need not be the person who signs it off. This rides the platform’s seat-based access model.

Payslip generation follows approval: for each employee in the period, a payslip document is produced from the report template configured on the schema — for the whole period or a single employee. Approved results are what employees then see in their read-only pay view in My continON.

Worth knowing

  • Named, dated approvalThe period record stores who approved and when — sign-off is a stamped fact.
  • Separation of dutiesApproval and payslip generation are separate permission claims from payroll editing.
  • Payslips from a designed templatePayslip layout is the report template the schema names, generated per employee after approval.
  • Selective approvalApprovers can approve selected employees within a period, not only all-or-nothing.
