Chart of Accounts
How do we set up and maintain the account structure every posting lands on?
Every account in continON is a record with a number, a name, a type, a financial-statement class, a group and subgroup, a normal side, and an optional counter-account. The chart is browsed as a three-level drill-down — groups, subgroups, then the accounts inside them.

How it works
An account record carries the fields the posting engine and the report builder rely on: the account number and name, its account type, which financial statement it belongs to, its group and subgroup placement, whether it normally carries a debit or credit balance, and a counter-account it pairs with. New accounts can be created from scratch or copied from an existing account to keep numbering conventions consistent.
The chart is maintained per organization, so each organization on the platform keeps its own account structure and naming. Other modules reference these accounts directly: a contract in the register points at the account it settles against, a damaged-stock write-off in the warehouse posts to an account selected on the write-off, tax settings map to accounts, and payroll reads finance accounts to build its ledger preview.
What the table carries
| # | Maintained | Resolved against it |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Three-level drill-down | The chart opens by group, expands to subgroups, and then lists the accounts inside — the same structure the account filters use across the ledger screens. |
| 02 | Normal side and counter-account | Each account declares whether it normally carries debit or credit and can name a counter-account, which the posting logic uses when it writes paired rows. |
| 03 | Statement classification | Accounts carry a financial-statement class alongside type, group, and subgroup, so report definitions can address them by structure instead of one by one. |
| 04 | Copy to create | A new account can be started as a copy of an existing one, keeping group placement and conventions while changing the number and name. |
| 05 | Referenced across the platform | Contracts, warehouse write-offs, tax settings, and payroll previews all point at chart-of-accounts records rather than free-text account codes. |
