Gantt Planning & Milestones

How do we plan schedules, dependencies, and milestones?

Project schedules are built on an interactive Gantt editor: tasks nest into subtask levels, dependency links connect rows, and milestones flag fixed points. The rows are the same task records the execution screens use — there is no separate planning copy to keep in sync.

What is checked before it commits

6 checks
  • Nested subtask levels

Tasks form a parent-child hierarchy with levels, and the tree loads with children attached so the full breakdown is edited in one view.

  • Dependency links

Rows connect through dependency records between a predecessor and a dependent task, so sequencing is data, not drawing.

  • Milestone flags

A row’s start or end can be marked as a milestone, and tasks themselves carry a milestone flag used in lists and views.

  • Organization-calendar scheduling

Non-working days and holiday dates are read from the organization calendar and applied when durations and dates are computed.

  • Resource view on the same plan

The resource Gantt shows employees and equipment as resources with their task assignments and dependencies on one timeline.

  • Assignment from the plan

Rows can carry an assignee or skill requirements, so allocation can start from the schedule rather than a separate screen.

How it works

The Gantt presents the project as a work-breakdown hierarchy: tasks with subtask levels, each row carrying its status, start and end dates, duration, and a progress percentage shown on the bar. Dependency links connect rows so downstream dates follow their predecessors, and task boundaries can be flagged as milestones.

Scheduling is calendar-aware. Non-working day indexes and holiday dates come from the organization calendar and shape computed dates, rather than plain day arithmetic. Rows can also carry planning attributes used at assignment time: priority, required time with a time-period unit, and skill requirements by category, skill, and level.

A second, resource-oriented Gantt view lays assigned employees and equipment against the same timeline, with the project’s dependencies and assignments loaded together. Edits are guarded — a task with children cannot simply be deleted, and changes write back to the live task records that assignees see.
