Asset Barcodes & Identification
How are assets identified and tagged?
Assets and serialized items get barcode identities generated by the product, each traceable to the goods receipt that introduced the item. The scope is deliberate: barcode identification for assets and serials, not a warehouse-wide scan-to-pick system.
How it works
Each asset carries a generated barcode identity, and serialized items carry serial numbers that link back to the goods acceptance that received them. Identity is therefore created where the item physically enters the company, which is what makes it trustworthy later.
The identity follows the asset through its life in the records: handovers, returns, and location changes all refer to the same identified asset, so a tag on a device corresponds to one custody history.
Scope stated plainly: barcode support in the current product is asset- and serial-focused. It is not a warehouse-wide scanning layer, and picking or moving stock by scan is not part of the current product.
What it records
Generated barcode identity
The product generates barcode identities for assets rather than importing foreign tags.
Receipt traceability
Identities link to the goods receipt where the item entered the company.
One identity, one history
Handover, return, and location records accumulate against the same identified asset.
What this touches
- Asset register
The barcode identity belongs to the asset’s register record. - Assignment & handover
Custody changes reference the identified asset. - Lots, expiry & serials
Serial numbers on the stock side share the receipt-traceability model. - Goods acceptance
Identity is anchored at the receipt that introduced the item.
